Sally's Story

DEER ISLE - Sally M. Pratt, longtime resident of Deer Isle, passed peacefully in her sleep on January 22, 2015 at Springbrook Center in Westbrook, Me.

Sally was born on Nov. 3, 1924 in Alfred, Maine to Dora and Frank Murphy. She grew up on the family farm in the neighboring town of Lyman. She graduated from Kennebunk High School, and Becker Junior College of Business Administration in Worcester, Ma. After graduating she worked as a medical secretary in Boston, and later in Jaffrey, NH where she met her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard. They moved to Deer Isle in 1964 where she was an active member of the Sunshine Advent Christian Church, and volunteered for many years at the Chase Emerson Memorial Library.

Sally was a beautiful woman of wonderful character, strong faith in Christ, a joy to be around, with a genuine concern for others. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. During his diabetes illness she was Richard's dedicated "nurse." Their home was welcoming to all. Sally was supportive, encouraging, generous, a good neighbor and friend. She enjoyed reading, walks, Bible studies, laughter, and fun times with family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband, Richard in 2010, she is survived by their sons, Jonathan & his wife Kelly of Deer Isle, Timothy and his wife Susan of Lyman, grandchildren Jeremy Pratt, Andrew Pratt, Wayne Diffin, Roger Diffin, and Dawn Hodge, and eight great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sunshine Advent Christian Church, 1155 Sunshine Rd. in Deer Isle on Saturday, January 31, from 12:00 - 1:00 pm with the funeral service to follow at 1:15. Arrangements were made by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Stonington, ME.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to Chase Emerson Memorial Library in Deer Isle, or Sunshine Advent Christian Church.
