- Ruth Edna Smith, 100, widow of Arthur C. Smith, passed from this life into the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 16, 2016. She was born September 10, 1916, in Bradford, the daughter of Allie and Edna (Arnold) Southard. She had worked 17 years as a stitcher in area shoe shops and lovingly provided a happy home for her family. She was a cherished member of Bradford Baptist Church, a longtime resident of Hilltop Manor and a member of the Happy Grandmothers Club. She was an avid gardener and quilt maker and gathered her share of field strawberries, dandelion greens, raspberries and blueberries. She had a large heart for loving and giving.
Surviving are two sons, Robert, and his wife, Janet, of Lagrange and Douglas and his wife, Priscilla, of Corinth; a daughter-in-law, Jean, of Bradford; 9 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by a son, Leslie, a grandson, Andrew, two brothers, Stanley and Vernal, and a step-sister, Frances Burns.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, December 21st 2016, at 5 p.m. at the Bradford Baptist Church with Pastor Don Booker officiating. Visiting hours will be 3 p.m. for immediate family and 4 p.m. for friends. Everyone is invited to a time of reflection and fellowship following the service. Those who wish may, in lieu of flowers, make a contribution to the Bradford Baptist Church. Graveside committal will be held at Mills Cemetery in late Spring.
