Ruth's Story

ETNA - Ruth H. Carter, 95, died April 1, 2016 at a Bangor hospital following a short period of ill health. She was born in Dexter Jan. 2, 1921 the daughter of Patrick and Adelia (Amaveen) Lyons. Ruth was raised by Dewey and Pauline Carter in Etna.

She was married to Clair Carter who predeceased her on May 20, 1980. Ruth was a homemaker and wife. She worked at the Etna Dixmont School as a cook for several years. She was also employed at the Log Cabin Diner in Newport as a cook for several years.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Etna, a 50 plus year member of the Etna Dixmont Extension.

Ruth loved to knit and knitted hundreds of new born hats for the Neonatal Unit at E.M.M.C. in Bangor.

Ruth was the holder of the Boston Post Cane as Etna's oldest resident.

See is survived by two sons, Ronald E Carter of Etna, Clair H. Carter of Etna, three daughters; Joan Henderson of Etna, Patricia Pearl of Palmyra, Linda Guidi of Gorham, two sisters, Charlotte Rowe of Etna, Sheryl Drew of Florida, 15 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters, two great grandsons, Jeremy and John, also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Carrie-Anne Carter and predeceased by a son-in-law Elmer Pearl.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday April 8, 2016 at the Brown Funeral Home 34 High Street Newport. Friends may call Friday from 11 AM until 1 PM the time of the service. Burial will be at the Mt Pleasant Cemetery Etna. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the Phillips-Strickland House, Activity Fund, 21 Boyd Street Bangor, Maine 04401.
