GREENVILLE - Roy F. Williams Jr., 87 passed peacefully, Friday morning January 2, 2015. He was born and raised in Hamden Connecticut, the great-grandson of a Kansas pioneer.
He served in the Navy as corpsman during WWII. He lived and raised his family in Spring Lake, NJ and was owner operator of Shore Marine in Lavallette. Delivering a boat in the Bahama out islands, he fell in love with and purchased an island home in Hopetown, Abaco where he made many local friends. Before moving to Greenville, he and his wife Anne lived in Deerfield Beach, FL, where he captained a private yacht. Having fond memories of his childhood vacations on Moosehead Lake, they returned to Greenville, in 1978 buying a home. He loved exploring the Maine woods and was an avid outdoorsman. Active in the local business community he was a partner in Sander's general store and was actively involved in the chamber of commerce. After which, he went on to become a real estate agent and then an appraiser. He also was involved in politics and ran for State Legislature.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Anne Peterson Williams; a daughter Kathy Malhame and her husband, Richard; 3 sons, Roy F. Williams III and his wife, Joette, Ward F. Williams and his wife, Beth, Scott A. Williams and his wife, Mary Beth; six grandchildren, Ward, Andrew, Andrea, Maria, Nicholas, and Jacob Williams and one great-grandchild Isabella Dean; his beloved sister-in-law, Edythe Buchter, also a resident of Greenville, and her children, Nelson Towle, Laura Curran, and Christopher Towle.
He was predeceased by his sister Jane Richards.
