Roy's Story

BREWER - Roy Fred Getchell, 90, died October 14, 2014 at Maine Veterans Home surrounded by his family. He was born December 26, 1923, in Hampden, a son of Clinton and Blanche (Antill) Getchell.

He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army. He was always active, enjoying family gatherings, dancing and riding his bike and was an avid exerciser. He will be remembered for his green thumb and his many plants. He was employed at Eastern Fine Paper and retired from Automatic Music.

He is survived by three children Arnold Getchell and wife Valerie of Hermon, Marie Johnson and husband Craig Poole of Levant, Dorothy Plank and husband Donald of Bangor; six grandchildren Jimmy, Shelley, Malissa, Matthew, Troy, and Amy; nine great grandchildren Courtney, Dominick, Kamran, Adam, Safia, Dylan, Tyler, Kayden, and Kyle; special friend Millie Hanson; son-in-law James Henry; close friend and neighbor Leon Grant; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Alice in 2002, daughter Linda Henry; and many brothers and sisters.

A graveside service will be conducted 11AM Tuesday at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activities Fund at Maine Veterans Home 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
