Rowena's Story

ST. ALBANS - Rowena McLeod, 87, died March 1, 2016 at Sanfield Rehab & Living Center. She was born June 10, 1928 in Bridgewater, a daughter of Mansfield and Georgia (Nelson) Harris.

She married Lewis McLeod on December 25, 1946. They lived together for 68 years before Ena entered a nursing care facility, followed there by Lewis the following year. Ena worked outside the home while the children were growing up but was also the bookkeeper for the family construction company. She will be remembered for keeping exceptional books. She enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and, at an early age, sang on WLBZ and with Pick and the Pine Tree Mountaineers. Even when Alzheimer's disease affected her mind, she continued to sing hymns with her beautiful voice, blessing the residents and staff at the home with all the correct words. She was a member of the Hartland Full Gospel Church where her faith grew and sustained her until her death. The church was good to her and she enjoyed her family there.

She is survived by 3 children, Ervin and wife Linda, Steven and wife Margaret, and Judy Cummings; 6 grandchildren, Michael Cummings and wife Veronika, Torrey McLeod, Ann Bond, Bobbie Roberts, Erin Speed and husband Paul, and Amy Brann; 5 great grandchildren.

Ena was predeceased by her husband, all 4 of her siblings, Ray and Sherm Harris, Donna Smith, Edna Whiting, her infant great granddaughter, Trinity Cummings, and her son in law, Carl Cummings.

A spring graveside funeral and committal service will be held at Maloon Cemetery, St. Albans, and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish may leave written condolences at
