Ronald's Story

HAMLIN - Ronald Norman Cyr, 79, died peacefully Tuesday, March 22, 2016 surrounded by family at Central Maine Medical Center following complications from chronic congestive heart failure. He was born September 3rd, 1936, in Hamlin, to Leon P. and Emily (Bouchard) Cyr.

He is survived by his 2nd wife of 54 years, Marguerite (Blanchette) Cyr; his son Douglas Cyr and partner Marcia Fritz, of Naples, Maine; his youngest son Keith Cyr of Hamlin; his daughters Maureen Cyr of Camerillo, California, Susan Begin and partner Wayne Belanger of Augusta, and Vicky Cyr and her wife Michele Guzowski of Minot, Maine. He also leaves behind seven grand children, Jessica Smith, Cody and Cyrina Cyr, Nicholas Cyr, Jocelyn Begin, Bayden and Bellamy Cyr-Guzowski. Ron is also survived by his twin brother Donald Cyr and his wife Marietta (Martin) of Hamlin, Maine, and Gilman Cyr and his wife Rinette (Martin) of Madawaska, Maine.

He was predeceased by his parents, his son Dale Cyr, and his 1st wife, the mother of Dale, Joann (Cyr) Cyr, and his sister Hilda (Cyr) and her husband Conrad Martin.

In his early years, Ronald, at a very young age, along side his twin brother Donald, assumed responsibility for the family farm after their father passed away.

He served a brief time in the U.S. Navy being honorably discharged due to health reasons. He returned to northern Maine and assumed his responsibilities on the Cyr Brothers Potato Farm.

In 1971, Ronald founded the family business, Valley Steam-Way Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning and retired at the age of 69. The business is still in operation today, owned and operated by his youngest son, who was born the year the business was established.

Always a willing servant to his community, Ron was a 4th Degree Knight with the Van Buren Knights of Columbus Council 1635. For 25 years he was devoted to the Friends of Bill, Alcoholics Anonymous Organization. He was supported by many friends in his journey of recovery, and provided support to many as well. His family recognizes his AA affiliation as an extension of his family.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, in Hamlin, Maine on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at 11:00 am. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family from 9:30 to 11:00.

A mercy meal is being offered in the basement of the church following the service. The date of interment will be determined at a later date in which Ron will be interred with his son Dale and 1st wife, Joann in Hamlin, Maine.
