- Ronald Edward Cormier, 75, died peacefully after a period of failing health on December 8th, 2016, in Oakton, VA.
Ronald was born in Baltimore, MD, on October 21, 1941, the son of the late Beatrice Jane Kanuck and Sean Daniel Glocamoira. He grew up in Fairfield County, CT, and Long Island, NY. He attended Fairfield Preparatory School and Fairfield University graduating with a Master's in Business Administration and International Relations. Following his graduation, he served in the Air National Guard. He subsequently worked in the U.S. defense and intelligence communities including Sikorsky, Boing, and the FBI. He loved to recount his days as a pilot and yachtsman.
In his earlier years, he and his mother, Beatrice, owned a number of restaurants including the famed LeSerre Restaurant in Fairfield, CT. His love of fine French food and French language and culture remained with him throughout his life.
Upon moving with his family to Pittsfield, Maine, in 1985, he returned to the culinary arts as he, together with his wife Darlene, owned and operated Country Pies of Maine. They greatly enjoyed collaborating on new recipes.
Ronald also loved classical music and could name any piece, composer, and the circumstances surrounding its composition. He also enjoyed watching classic musicals, writing poetry, and photography. In addition, as an amateur etymologist, he loved dissecting words; one of his prized possessions was his 24 volume collection of the Oxford English Dictionary.
His greatest passion however, besides his family, was his faith. Attending Jesuit high school and university, he developed a deep respect for the Society of Jesus and all things Ignatian. He extensively studied and reflected upon world religions and maintained an encyclopedic knowledge of the Gospel and his Catholic faith. He also held a deep affection for the Byzantine and Russian Orthodox liturgies and musical traditions which he had been introduced to by his grandmother, Veronica. Over the years, he served as a CCD teacher, RCIA leader, lector, on parish councils, and in soup kitchens. He also enjoyed membership in the Knights of Columbus. Even into his final days, he was always desirous of sharing his faith in God and Jesus Christ with others.
He is survived by his daughter, Anne (Cormier) Paolini and husband Chris of Trumbull, CT, John Cormier and family of Rome, Italy, Rebecca Cormier Ruiz and husband Rex of Oakton, VA, and son, Uriel Cormier and wife Nichole Temple of Pittsfield, Maine, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Victoria and Gabriel Cormier, Deanna and Matthew Paolini, Leonardo, Veronica, and Lorenzo Cormier, and Rafael and Gabriel Ruiz. He is also survived by his brother, William Cormier, of Stratford, CT.
Devastated by his wife (of 43 years) Darlene's passing in September of 2015, he was eagerly looking forward to seeing her and his parents again in heaven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 22nd, 2016, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 238 Detroit Street, Pittsfield, Maine.
Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.
