- Roger R. Theriault, age 77, of Capital Street and formerly of Van Buren, ME, died unexpectedly on April 28, 2017, at his home. He was born in St. Leonard, N.B., Canada, on December 25, 1939, the son of Romeo Theriault and Annette (Madore) Theriault.
Mr. Theriault moved to Van Buren, Maine, at the age of fifteen. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Prior to his retirement in December of 2000, he was employed as a paper maker by Fraser Paper Company of Madawaska for 41 years. He and his wife, Claudette, moved to Augusta in August of 2011.
He was a former member of the St. Bruno Catholic Church and currently a member of St. Michael Parish of the greater Augusta area, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 49 of Van Buren, and a member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens in Augusta.
He was predeceased by his father, by his mother, Annette Gagnon, and by a sister, Jocelyn Smith.
Surviving is his wife, Claudette (Berube) Theriault of Augusta; one son, Michael Theriault and his wife Donna of Londonderry, NH; two sisters, Gay Bernier of Limestone, ME, and Giselle Minnela of Chester, NY; five brothers: Rudy Theriault of Idaho Falls, ID, Guy Theriault of Newberg, ME, Conrad Theriault of Oconomowoc, WI, Ronald Theriault of Leominster, MA, and Daniel Theriault of Moses Lake, WA; two grandsons, Jax and Austin Theriault, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no public visiting hours. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2017, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta, ME. Burial with military honors will be at 9:00 a.m., Monday, May 15. 2017, in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, ME.
