BRADENTON, FL AND BUCKSPORT, ME, - Roger Neal James, 76, of Bradenton, FL and Bucksport, ME, died January 30, 2015 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Kathryn (Roe) James, his mother-in-law Elizabeth Roe, nephew Jeffrey James and his family (wife Elizabeth, children Katie, Harrison & Thomas), cousin Susan James as well as many other relatives and friends.
Roger was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and St Lawrence University. He served three years in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as a Yeoman Third Class. He married Kathryn in 1972, living in Binghamton, NY. Theirs has been an especially close and loving relationship for nearly 43 years. He retired from Verizon in 2001 and enjoyed his retirement between their homes in Bradenton and Maine.
He enjoyed boating, cars, and woodworking as well as maintaining their homes in pristine condition. He concentrated on taking good care of Kathryn as well as his mother-in-law, who moved into his household after having a stroke in 2013. Roger loved to treat "his girls" right and he loved to make sure they had the best of everything. He was a truly honorable and righteous man. He will be sorely missed.
A Memorial service will be held at the Braden River Memorial Church, 5858 44th Ave East in Bradenton on Saturday, February 7th at 2:00 p.m. A second Memorial service will be held in Maine sometime in June.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orland United Methodist Church, PO Box 81, Orland, ME 04472.
