HANCOCK - Roger Lawrence Eckhardt, 72, died July 9, 2015, at his home. He was born in Eden, New York, the son of Lawrence and Erika Eckhardt.
Roger played football at Eden High School and graduated in 1961, and attended Cornell University graduating in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy as a junior officer from 1966 to 1969, including a Vietnam tour.
In Eden as a boy, Roger worked on his uncle's vegetable farms. Driving the tractor and taking produce to market in Buffalo were enjoyable times for Roger. Growing, shopping, preparing, eating and sharing food were a pleasure for Roger.
In 1974 Roger and his wife, Dianne, bought an old farmhouse that Roger restored. He started a business restoring nearby older homes.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dianne (Travis) Eckhardt; sisters, Carol Joy Knight of Eden, NY, and Maggie Pedersen of Colorado Springs, CO; nephews, Eric Knight of Berwyn, PA, and Greg Pedersen of Windsor, CO; and niece, Marla Brazil of Colorado Springs, CO.
