BANGOR - Roberta "Bert" (Keene) McKeown, 79, died peacefully of Alzheimer's Disease April 3, 2015, with loving family by her side. She was born April 8, 1935, in Milltown, New Brunswick, the daughter of Lowell and Marjorie (Smith) Keene.
Roberta grew up in Milltown, Maine. She raised her family, lived and worked in southern Connecticut for more than 50 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed yard work, playing cards, bocce and spending time with friends at the North Branford VFW, where she was a member of Post 8294 Auxiliary. Friends and family will remember her sharp wit and fun-loving spirit.
She is survived by daughter, Candis Penley of Hampden; son, Wayne McKeown and his partner, Brenda, of Vermont; grandchildren, Sarah Penley of Old Town, Joseph McKeown and wife, Theresa, of Vermont, Eric Penley and wife, Gina, of Massachusetts and Danielle Vaine and husband, Dan, of Vermont; brother-in-law, Elmer Richardson; sisters-in-law, Esther Keene and Ida Mae Barber; great-grandchildren, Dalton, Savannah and Emma; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Daniel; brothers, Robert and Darrell; sister, Joyce Richardson; and son-in-law, Robert Penley. Roberta's family wishes to especially thank the staff at Westgate Center for caring for her with kindness and dignity during the past 7 years.
