HAMPDEN - Robert L. McCluskey, 84, passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2015, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Bangor on July 1, 1931, the son of the late James and Margaret (Kearns) McCluskey.
Bob was a life long resident of Hampden. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War Conflict. Upon his return he worked at Economy's IGA for 25 years and then at Dexter Shoe for 25 years retiring in 1995. He is a former commander of the Whitcomb Baker VFW Post #4633 and was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Beverly (Thorne) McCluskey; six children, Timothy McCluskey and Angela, Paul McCluskey and Lorraine, Edward McCluskey and Julie, Peter McCluskey and Valarie, Elizabeth Lumino and Mark, Matthew McCluskey, daughter-in-law, Deborah; siblings, Anna Glynn of Plainsville, CT, John McCluskey and wife Connie of Bristol, CT, Carolyn Kenney and husband Joseph of Bellingham, MA; fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph, Charles, James Jr., Edward, and Francis; and three sisters, Jane Mooney, Mary Miller, and Ellen Gallant.
Friends may call from 6-8 PM, Wednesday, July 22, at the Hampden Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 70 Western Avenue, Hampden, at 11 AM, Thursday, July 23, followed by the Rite of Committal at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
