BANGOR - Robert "Bob" LeRoy King, 76, passed away peacefully December 25, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born January 6, 1938, the son of Louis and Doris (Waite) King.
Bob grew up in East Millinocket, Maine where he attended Schenck High School and spent the vast majority of his spare time in the great outdoors that he loved so much. He then joined the Air Force where he became a navigator and radio operator for several types of aircraft. After his honorable discharge, he received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maine. After four years with Union Carbide in Illinois and New Jersey, Robert and his wife, Catherine (McDougall), moved back to Maine in 1968 where he was a Project Engineer with the University of Maine. In this role, Robert oversaw the construction and renovation of many university buildings and laboratories. He was particularly proud of overseeing the design and construction of the Campus Center at the University of Maine's Presque Isle campus.
Robert's love and intrinsic understanding of nature was only matched by his devotion to his family. Bob is survived by his wife, Catherine Ann King; his children, Kenneth, Tamera and David; grandchildren, Rebecca, Robert James, Taline, Shannon, and Robert Nazareth; great granddaughter, Madison Paige; his sister, Barbara Doughty and her husband, Dale; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his son, Robert Scott King. The family wishes to thank the nursing and CNA staff for their kind and compassionate care.
