- Robert G. Duke Sr., born February 5, 1929, at Medford, MA, the son of Llewellyn J. and Mina Ruth (Chalmers) Duke. Raised in Melrose, MA, graduating from Melrose High School, Vermont Academy, Saxtons River, VT, and Tufts College in Medford, MA, in 1951. He served in the United States Army Counterintelligence Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953.
Bob's entire working career was spent in the insurance business in Boston, MA, Rockport, ME, and Bangor working for the CIGNA Corp., Maine Insurance Advisory Board, Blake Barrows and Brown, Inc. and retired from the Dunlap Corporation in 1992. Before and since his retirement he has followed his avocation of singing barbershop harmony, most specifically for the past 30 years as a member of the Bangor Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America Inc. He also sang in church choirs and was a member of several civic organizations. For the past several years he volunteered at Manna Inc. in Bangor.
He is survived by his sons Robert G. Duke Jr. and wife Doreen of Rockport, Alan M. Duke and wife Susan of Ferrisburgh, VT. Grandchildren, Jennifer Hodgson and husband Todd of Cincinnati, OH, Jonathan Duke and wife Joanna of Rockport, Stephen Duke, Cincinnati, OH, Gabrielle Duke, Rockport and Brendan Duke of Ferrisburgh, VT. Great grandchildren William and Carter Duke of Rockport. Also surviving is his sister Phyllis M. Clark and husband Gilmore Clark of Bristol, ME. Nephew Bruce Clark and Brenda Price of NH. He was predeceased by his former first wife Helen Moss Duke, second wife Constance Young (Bragg) Duke and son Richard L. Duke.
Services will be private for the family.
