MILLINOCKET - Robert I. Basque died suddenly on the afternoon of April 27, 2015 from injuries sustained in a car accident earlier that day. He was 84 years old.
He was born on April 8 on the Restigouche reservation in Quebec Canada. He was the only son of Lucy Basque.
Robert was a long time resident of Millinocket and enjoyed 31 years as a papermaker for Great Northern Paper Company as well as 20 years working for the town of MIllinocket. He was a soft spoken man with a kind and gentle nature and always had a twinkle in his eye that babies and animals often found inviting. He held a very special place in his heart for two dogs who went before him, Muffin and Cocoa. He enjoyed playing cards, going for rides, and watching a good ball game on television. He was a proud Micmac Indian and a 40 year friend of Bill. He will be missed by his family, the morning breakfast group at Ruthie's Restaurant, and by his friends and neighbors, Carole and Ken Wedge.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn; and his mother Lucy and step father Joe Gedeon.
He is survived by his family. Step son Ron Bossie and his wife Ruth and their children Katherine Funchion and Ted Bossie; his grandson DJ McDunnah and his wife Kara; his three daughters Shelia Richardz of Oregon and Carol Basque and Shar-ron Basque both of Canada; his step children Harold Bossie of Montana, Cheryl Hawes of Kansas, and Leo Bossie of Millinocket; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were special to Pappy.
A service will be held at a later date with interment at the Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Robert may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462 or to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt Hope Ave, Bangor, ME 04401.
