Rita's Story

HOWLAND - Rita Rose (Cote) Sereyko, 87, wife of the late Kenneth Sereyko, died January 28, 2016, at a Howland healthcare facility. She was born August 8, 1928, in Old Town, the daughter of David and Eugenia "Jennie" (Paradis) Cote.

Her family was raised on a farm in West Old Town and she graduated from Old Town High School. Rita was an active communicant of St Leo Parish, a 55 year member of Ladies of St. Ann, a member of the Daughters of Isabella in Old Town, very active in the Howland-Enfield Federal Credit Union and the Knights of Columbus Wives, and worked for MSAD #31. She loved her family and friends, traveling and spending time at camp on South Branch Lake. She enjoyed music jams and dancing and was affectionately known as the "queen of clean."

She is survived by four children, Nancy Burgoyne and John, Brenda White and Rick, David Sereyko and Cindy and Steve Sereyko and Valerie; eight grandchildren, Ashley and Adam Burgoyne, Zack and Isaac White, Bill and Tim Sereyko, Jessie Frenette and Kasha "My Girl" Sereyko; eight great-grandchildren, Chloe, Emma, Sophie, Macy, Haven, Haylee, Lennox and Quincy; four sisters-in-law, Joan Cote, Polly Lodge, Stella Sereyko and Hilda Sereyko; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Marion Giovanelli; and five brothers, Lewis, Leo, Romeo, Robert and Wilfred Cote.

Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, January 31, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am Monday, February 1, at St Leo Catholic Church, Howland. Spring interment will be in St. Matthew Cemetery, West Enfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Health and Counseling-Hospice Services, 313 Enfield Rd, Lincoln, ME 04457. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
