BANGOR - Rita Isabel McAloon, 91, died Sept. 18, 2015 at Westgate Manor. She was born June 21, 1924 in Bangor, the daughter of Charles E. and Mary C. (Bowen) McAloon.
Rita graduated from St. John's Catholic School and John Bapst Memorial High School in 1942 with distinction. She attended Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University from 1942 to 1944. She worked at Merrill Bank and Fleet Bank, later becoming Bank of America, with a 43 year career retiring in 1987. She worked in the bookkeeping and auditing department as assistant supervisor. Upon retirement, Rita was supervisor and assistant operations officer of the customer service department. During her banking career, she completed many American Institute of Banking courses and seminars. Rita was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a volunteer during WWII with the Ground Observer Corps.
Surviving are one nephew, Richard G. Simmons of Bangor; a niece, Linda Sproul and her husband, Tom of Glenburn; a great nephew, Eric Sproul and his son, Colby of Glenburn and a great niece, Megan Sproul and her daughter, Madyson of Glenburn. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and their husbands, Mary and Arthur Simmons, Anna and John Orfo and three brothers, Clarence, Gerald and Albert McAloon and Albert's wife, Melba McAloon; also by a nephew, Stephen Charles McAloon. Rita's family gratefully thanks the staff of Westgate Manor for their loving care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. Burial and committal will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic School, PO Box 1749, Bangor, ME 04402-1749.
