Rita Alberta (Smith) Littlefield, 88, died peacefully October 15, 2016. She was born June 27, 1928, in Ashland, the daughter of Earl R.F. and Eleanor M. (Owen) Smith.
She worked for 17 years as a teacher's aide in special education for the Bangor School System, first at Dow Lane School and then Fourteenth Street School. Rita and her husband were members of the LeVi Rounders Square Dance Club of Hermon. She enjoyed being a Ballot Clerk for the Town of Hermon for many years.
Rita's faith was important to her. Her family attended the Mapleton Methodist Church until moving to Bangor in 1969. She and her husband were active with the Carmel Union Congregational Church where she was a member for over 30 years.
She was married to the love of her life, Laurel Littlefield, who "treated me like a queen" for 48 years until his death in 1995. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Rita dedicated her life in service to others doing so quietly and meekly with a gentle spirit.
She is survived by her four children, Danny Littlefield and his wife, Peg of Florida, Aleta Wade of Holden, Peggy Elmer and her husband, Irvin of Carmel, and Randy Littlefield of Bangor; nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Edwina "Dint" Cline of Wisconsin, Kathari Findlen and her husband, Dick of Houlton, and Bonnie Campbell and her husband, Gary of Oklahoma; one brother, Doug Goss and his wife, Bonnie of New York, and sister-in-law, Loretta Smith, of Delaware.
In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, Laurel R. Littlefield; her brothers, Lloyd, Owen, Edward "Mickey" Smith and Burt Goss.
Relatives and friends may call from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, with Rev.
