FORT FAIRFIELD - Rita M. Gagnon, 90, wife of the late Patrick R. Gagnon, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 14, 2014, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Winterville, the daughter of Alphie and Cecile (Marquis) Godin.
She attended school in Winterville and was married to Patrick R. Gagnon on Nov. 22, 1941. Rita had been a resident of Fort Fairfield since 1952 and had been a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Rita will be remembered as a positive, loving person who's smile will be remembered by all. She loved children and will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, Patrick on May 20, 1989; two sisters, Pauline Gagnon and Loretta Lopez. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard P. and Margaret Gagnon of Easton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and James Curless of Caribou, Linda and David Curlin of Bossier City, LA; one sister, Bertha Mahaney of Presque Isle; ten grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Rita's wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with Father Emile Dube celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
