Richard's Story

ORONO - Richard A. "Dick" Turner passed away on December 24, 2015, from chronic lung disease and heart problems. He was born March 19, 1932 and was raised by a loving Aunt Lillie, who meant the world to him, and Uncle Henry Turner.

Dick attended Bangor and Brewer schools and received his G.E.D. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War aboard the Everett F. Larson. Dick was employed at Eastern Fine Paper as a shift tower foreman for several years. He enjoyed his many fishing trips and hunting at his camp. Dick was a member of the motor cycle group GWRA Chapter D and also a member of the VFW of Bangor and the American Legion.

He will be remembered as a devoted, loving husband and father. Surviving are his wife, M. Robena Turner of Orono, his children from a previous marriage Richard Turner and his wife Sheri of Auburn, MI, Mark Turner of Levant, Lezlie Turner of Barrington, NH, and Bruce Turner and his wife Joannie of Orrington; six grandchildren, Benjamin, Daniel, Nicole, Rick, Justin, and Rebecca; step-children, Sandra (Sproul) Manship and her husband Tom of Northfield and their children and grandchildren; and Jeff Sproul and his wife Fern of Lee and his children; Dick's brothers James Hayden and Merritt (Sonny) Hayden, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Beaulah Turner Hayden, Aunt Lillie and Uncle Henry Turner, brother Robert Wilder and infant daughter Cathy Jo Turner.

A funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, December 30 at Brookings Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with the Reverend Grace Bartlett officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 11:00am until time of service Wednesday. Interment with military honors will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery following the service Wednesday.
