Richard's Story

ST. AGATHA AND PRESQUE ISLE - Dick left this world peacefully on October 6, 2015 while at home with his loving wife Opal. Dick was born February 17, 1933 in Presque Isle, ME. He graduated from Presque Isle High School, obtained his Baccalaureate in Education from UMPI and his Masters from UM at Orono. Dick was employed as an educator for MSAD #1 for 32 years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Opal (Gagnon), two sisters Isabelle and Barbara, three children Joseph and his wife Kathleen of Fort Kent; Elaine Rogers and her husband Robert of Frenchville; Steven and his wife Kimberly of Cross Lake; 8 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild.

He was predeceased by his parents Granville and Margaret (Cummings) Smith; his loving daughter Karen Comfort; three brothers Hollis, John and Robert; two sisters Helen and Mary,

and Joe and Anna Gagnon; his Father and Mother-In-Law.

Dick touched the lives of many throughout his career as an educator, and as a sign painter whose signs can be seen throughout Northern Maine. His faith in God was paramount. Dick is now living his 5th day!

There will be a Mass of Celebration held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sinclair on Tuesday, October 20 at 11AM. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Presque Isle at a later date.
