OLD TOWN - Richard G. Goodwin, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, May 27, 2014 at a Bangor hospital with family by his side. He was born June 25, 1934 in Benton, a son of Maurice G. and Arlene A. (Pratt) Goodwin.

Richard was a loving and devoted husband and father. His wife and family were the center of his life. He retired in 1996 from Georgia-Pacific Mill in Old Town following 42 years of service. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and loved nature. Some of his favorite spots were Moosehead Lake, Graham Lake, and Schoodic Point.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rita (Waning) Goodwin; four sons, Michael Goodwin and his wife, Diane of Charlotte, NC, Donald Goodwin and his wife, Connie of Morgan City, LA, Robert Goodwin and his wife, Helen of Bangor and Mark Goodwin and his wife, Amy of Bangor; five grandchildren, Eric Goodwin and his wife, Katie of Atlanta, GA, Emily Goodwin of Charlotte, NC, Donny Goodwin and his wife, Elisia of Patterson, LA and David Goodwin and his wife, Angela of Amelia, LA, and Kimberly Goodwin of Morgan City, LA; six great-grandchildren, Lillie Goodwin, Collin Goodwin, Trent Lovell, Blake Lovell, Leah Wiggins and Raven Wiggins; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Robert and two sisters, Gail and Audrey, and his uncle, Earl Pratt. The family wishes to thank Cancer Care of Maine's doctors, nurses, and support staff for their wonderful and compassionate care.

Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday.
