PEABODY, MA - Richard W. "Butch" Beers, 67, formerly of Vanceboro, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife June at his side, after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 7th, 1947, in McAdam, New Brunswick, son of Harold Linwood Beers and Margaret Agnes Grant Beers.
Richard graduated from Vanceboro High School in 1965 and enlisted in the U. S. Navy soon after. He served as a Storekeeper aboard the USS Zellars (DD777) culminating in a NATO alliance Matchmaker II squadron cruise, visiting 12 countries with ships from six different countries.
Returning to civilian life, Richard began a new life as an Ophthalmic Laboratory Technician, at which he excelled, but his career was cut short by grave medical issues.
In his earlier years, Richard enjoyed the game of golf, and remained a lifelong avid fan of the New York Yankees, football Giants, and hockey's Rangers.
Richard is survived by his wife June; his sons Troy and Tommy; daughter Christy; brothers Gary and Michael; sisters JoAnne, Terri, and Corinne; loving aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
SERVICES: In honor of his wishes, family services will be held at a later date in his beloved Vanceboro.
