GREENSBORO, N.C. - Richard Beem, 76, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away on September 20, 2014 at the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, in Landrum, South Carolina after a brief illness. Richard was born September 17, 1938 in Bridgewater, Maine to Doris (Jamison) and Charles "Buster" Beem.
He grew up in Robinson, Maine. The family later moved to Mars Hill where he graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in 1956. He loved sports and was a member of the All Aroostook Basketball Team. He attended Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine. Richard loved to fish and hunt, passions he shared with his father. He retired to New Hampshire after working several years at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Portland, Maine. He moved to North Carolina with his daughter Jodie and her family a few years ago.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Doris Beem and his wife, Maxine Cross Beem. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Beem Miller of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Jodie Beem Belliveau of High Point, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Anne Tiernen Moronta of New Orleans, Mass.; Emily Tiernen of New York City; Michael Belliveau and Christy Belliveau of Sanford, North Carolina; and two great-granddaughters; his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Beverly Beem of Taylors, South Carolina.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Estes Cemetery in Easton, Maine. Funeral arrangements are by Faye Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Presque Isle.
