Rev. Dr. Robert's Story
- Rev. Dr. Robert D. Treadwell Sr. went to be with his bride Betty of 57 years on December 12, 2016.
He was born September 3, 1933, to Benjamin and Annie (Mackenzie) Treadwell in Bangor. He graduated from Hermon High School in 1951.
Bob enlisted in the USAF in 1953. In November of 1954 he married Betty Griffin. In September of 1956 they moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where Bob attended Tennessee Temple University, graduating with a degree in Theology in August 1958.
After returning to Maine, Bob became the pastor of the Levant Village Baptist Church. In 1970 he became an associate pastor at Bangor Baptist Church. July 1, 1984, he founded Twin City Baptist Church which he pastored until 2000. Bob and Betty enjoyed travel to Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Israel, and the Philippine Islands. Bob was a member of the 110th Maine State Legislature and served on the legal affairs committee. He enjoyed serving as the interim pastor at the First Baptist Church of Winter Harbor.
Surviving are his six children, Susan Ashford and husband Lloyd of Austin, Texas, Debbie Treadwell of Levant, Sherri Treadwell of Brewer, Robert Treadwell Jr. of Lewiston, Stephen and wife Martha of Carmel, and adopted son Jeremiah of Brewer: Seven Granddaughters Stephanie, Stacey, Melanie of Texas, Rebekah, Emily and Sarah, of Carmel and Crystal of Brownville; ten great grandchildren, sister Annie Terrell and husband Chester of Hermon, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Betty, sisters Olive, Blanche, and Mary; brothers Edwin, Stanley, Ellery and Howard.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday December 16, 2016, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1195 Stetson Rd., Exeter, with Pastor Stan Griffin officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until time of service on Friday. Interment with Military Honors will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
