Reed's Story

NEWPORT - Reed O. Dunphy, 64, passed away at his home on July 17, 2014.

Reed was born on December 4, 1949, in Waterville, the son of Hillis and Josephine (Reed) Dunphy. He grew up in Burnham and served our country in the United States Army. He worked for the U.S. Postal service serving as postmaster for the town of Plymouth until his retirement in 2005.

Reed was a member of the Barrows Skidgel American Legion Post 105 in Newport for 30 years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Cooper. He enjoyed motorcycles and was an avid Patriots fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Raegan Ward and husband, Tom, of Burnham; his son, Kyle Dunphy and wife, Ashley, of Burnham; a stepson, Michael Eaton, of Newburgh; his brother, Linwood (Red) Dunphy and wife, Dorothy, of Pittsfield; his sister, Janice McGowan and husband, Robert, of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Jazlynn Eaton, Alivia Ward, Melaina Eaton, Noah Ward, Logan Dunphy and Colton Eaton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and John.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, at the funeral home. A committal will follow at the Greenlawn Rest Cemetery, Route 100, in Clinton, with military honors being presented for his service to our country.
