- Rebecca L. Doty Page of Strafford, NH, died suddenly November 2016.
She leaves her husband, John; son, Carleton; daughter, Nicola; sister, Dorothy, of Wilton, NH; brother, Mark, of Madison, ME; sister, Kristen, of Brunswick, ME; and mother, Ritalee, of Brunswick, ME. She also left behind her beloved horses, Appaloosa, Vinnie and Haflinger, Chino, of Lee, NH. She was born May 1959, in Dayton Ohio, into an Air Force family, third of four children, to Ritalee and the late Maj. Aultman Doty.
Rebecca was active in 4-H and loved horses from an early age. She attended primary school at Keene Mill School in Springfield, VA, and Hanscom Air Force Base in Lincoln, MA, where she met her future husband in 1971. The family moved to Bradford, ME, where she raised and trained several horses. Rebecca graduated from Dover-Foxcroft Academy, then matriculated at UNH and studied Animal Sciences, while also working at the UNH light horse barn, and as a certified EMT in the Durham Ambulance Corps. She graduated from the University of Maine at Augusta, with a BS in accounting. She later earned an MS in taxation at Bentley University.
Rebecca worked at several farms in Maine, primarily dairy and meat, then at the Maine State Housing Authority, Harvard University Financial Systems, AMI in Strafford, and finally secured her dream job as an animal husbandry manager at Snell Farm in Lee, NH. Rebecca served on the Board of Directors at Harvard University Employee Credit Union and was a member of the Strafford School board.
Rebecca loved animals and always had as many as possible. She was an avid and accomplished gardener and won dozens of awards for her beautiful produce. Her other passions were reading, music, food, travel, and collecting stuff. Rebecca lived a full life, was very active, ate well, and was in excellent health. She was young, healthy, and taken from us far too soon by a Brain Hemorrhage. Our best theory as to the root cause of her death is that it was related to her several bouts of Lyme Disease.
Rebecca is especially missed for her warped and wonderful sense of humor, her honest and infectious laugh, and her caring and willingness to help others. A Memorial Celebration for Rebecca's life will be held 1-4 p.m. at the Bow Lake Grange Hall in Strafford, NH.
