Raymond's Story

PENN YAN, NY - Raymond V. Crosby, 85, of Penn Yan passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.

Raymond was born in Bangor, Maine on May 17, 1930, the son of the late Harold & Beatrice (McLaughlin) Crosby. He graduated from Bangor High School and was a star basketball player. Ray married Bernice "Bunny" Welton on Dec. 27, 1952 in Brewer, Maine. He was a Rate Clerk for Penn Yan Express, where he worked for 25 years. Ray was an avid tennis and golf player, he loved gardening and was a diehard Red Sox fan and an avid NY Giants fan.

He is survived by his children, Patricia (Carl Kratochvil) Lampson, Karen (Joseph) Abraham, Peter (Roberta) Crosby, Marianne (Timothy) Trombley, Susan (Stephen) Van Meter, Michael (Shaunna) Crosby and Gail (Timothy) Viele; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. Ray was predeceased by his wife, "Bunny"; brother, Harold Jr.; sister, Evelyn Gardea.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, October 27 from 4:00 - 7:00pm at the Townsend- Wood Funeral Chapel in Penn Yan. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Oct. 28th at St. Michael's Church in Penn Yan. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ray's name to the Humane Society of Yates County, PO Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or St. Michael's School, 214 Keuka St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
