VAN BUREN - R. Bernice Vaillancourt, 90, passed away on November 8, 2014 at a Caribou health care facility. She was born in Fort Kent on September 6, 1924, daughter of the late Paul and Marie (Clavette) Dubois.
She graduated from Madawaska High School as salutatorian of her class in 1942. Bernice was a lifetime member of the Daughters of Isabella, a member of TOPS, and often volunteered with Mercy Meals for St. Bruno/St. Remi. She was co-owner of Gilbert's Auto Supply and worked alongside her husband for many years often doing administration work.
Bernice is survived by two daughters, Helen Melvin and her husband Bill of Fort Kent, and Phyllis Gagnon and her husband Don of Van Buren; two sons, Jim Vaillancourt and his wife Rachel of Van Buren, Paul Vaillancourt, all of Van Buren; seven grandchildren, Scott Vaillancourt, Kate Beaulieu, James and David Melvin, Ruth Sheehan, Kathryn Ladd, Steven Gagnon; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Blanche Roix of Madawaska, Rita Picard and her husband Bert of Madawaska, Jeanne Martin of Connecticut, Eunice Seavey and her husband Ronald of Connecticut; three brothers, Gerald Dubois and his wife Rose Marie of Portland, Albe Dubois and his wife Rachel of Madawaska, Bob Dubois and his wife Odette of Cross Lake; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert Vaillancourt; her daughter, Ruth Vaillancourt; one brother, Louis Dubois; one sister, Rella Paradis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the St. Bruno/St. Remi Church. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday before the service. Spring interment will be held in the Parish cemetery.
