- On October 8, 2017, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Phyllis L. Vicaire, passed away at home. Phyllis was born December 17, 1929 to Bert and Margaret Libbey in Mattawamkeag, where she spent her entire life.
She and Melvin J. Vicaire raised their five children, Tom, Peggy, Dick, Charlene and Jeff in Mattawamkeag. Mom and Dad were active members of the town, the fire department, recreation department, scouts and sports at the school. Mom worked at the school lunch room, Houston House Hotel, and helped organize and worked many years at the Chester Dental Clinic until she retired. When she was 70, she worked at the Crossroads Restaurant and Motel for her nephew, Herbert Libbey, Jr. Mom and Dad's retirement was a camp on Madagascal Pond, where many a friend, grandchild, and family gathering were enjoyed.
Mom is survived by Tom and Lynn Vicaire and their children: Thomas and Amy and children, Joe and Zoe; Rick and Ray; Paula and Kevin Dickey and son, Ben; and the mother of Tom's children, Nancy Vicaire. Peggy and Bob Berg and their children: Bobby and Angie and children Brandon, Laci and Paul Bolduc and their children Mikel and Liam Bolduc, Reilly and girlfriend Lily; and their mother, Leanne Hallett; Beth and Darryl Willing and their children Sarah and Frank; Barbara and Owen Sylvester. Dick Vicaire: his son, Keane and Linda and their children, Nora and Gavin; Keane's mother, Lillian Randall. Charlene and Jim Slater: daughter Jessica and Mike Koneczny, and their children, Dakota and Mason; Jessica's Dad, Skip Ham. Jeff and Rhonda Vicaire: their children Colt and girlfriend Madison and Chase Vicaire. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Melvin; brother, Herbert Libbey, Sr. and granddaughter, Kasey Vicaire.
Graveside services will be held 12 noon Sunday, October 22, at Mattawamkeag Cemetery. Following the service at the cemetery there will be a gathering from 1-3 p.m. at Crossroads Restaurant in Mattawamkeag. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Mattawamkeag Public Library or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be expressed at clayfuneralhome.com.
