YARMOUTH - Phyllis Haskell Nichols, 50, of Yarmouth, died unexpectedly of complications of spinal bifida, July 12, 2014. She was born in Bangor, July 1, 1964, a daughter of Elizabeth (Haskell) and Alan Nichols.
She grew up "all over" and graduated from Woodland High School. She attended Saint Joseph College in Standish.
Due to her illness, Phyl was in constant pain and her life was one of doctors' appointments and hospital stays. She had a feisty spirit and with the help of her mother and her husband she was able to survive longer than expected. Through it all, she cared for others, and animals had a special place in her life. She enjoyed gardening and the beauty of flowers. Stephen King was her favorite author. Using her computer she was connected beyond any limitations and played bingo and Scrabble with friends online.
Phyl is survived by her parents of South Freeport; her husband of 24 years, Robert "Bob" Thoits of Yarmouth; her sister, Penny Nichols of South Freeport; her sister, Amy Pierce and her husband, Brian of Gray; her brother, Alan Nichols and Caryn Couture of Freeport; her niece, Lindsay Pierce; her nephews, Katon Nichols and Benjamin Pierce.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 396 Gilman Road, Yarmouth, with Rev. Lin Payton officiating. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery in Bucksport at a later date.
