Richmond, VT - Phillip Bancroft Shattuck passed away at the Maple Hill Residential Care Home in Waterbury, VT, on his 81st birthday, Saturday, December 24, with his son, Dan, at his side. Phillip was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Nancy Chandler Shattuck of Swan's Island.
He was born in New York City to the late Oliver Perham Shattuck II and Margaret Ellen (Lickley) Shattuck and moved to the Waterville, VT, area as a young child. After high school Phillip proudly served his country in the US Navy. Following his discharge he worked at IBM in Kingston, NY and then in Essex, VT until retirement. A longtime and avid photographer, sculptor, and artist, Phillip enjoyed creating and selling various forms of his artwork. Phillip and Nancy visited Swan's Island every summer following their marriage. He is lovingly remembered by his family as an exemplary husband who cared deeply for his wife and as a wonderful father.
He is survived by his children, Daniel Mattsen and his wife Katie of Swan's Island, ME, Robert Mattsen and his wife Menchie of Bangor, ME, and Stephanie Mattsen of Bangor, ME; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Oliver P. Shattuck III of Waterville, nieces, nephews, and extended family. While living at Maple Hill Phillip enjoyed reconnecting with his brother's side of the family especially his niece, Carolyn Shattuck, who provided incredible support and friendship.
