- Philip J. Parent, 95, died Monday, July 10, 2017, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou, with his family by his side. He was born March 24, 1922, in St. Leonard-Parent, NB, Canada, a son of the late Napoleon and Genevieve (Rouest) Parent.
Philip enlisted with the US Army during World War II, serving honorably in several European campaigns. He worked over 26 years for Van Buren Light & Power and was a 16 year veteran of the Van Buren Fire Department. Philip was a life-member of the American Legion, Post #49, Van Buren. He enjoyed busying his hands with woodwork or acting as the daily "taxi driver" carting his grandchildren around.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen Parent and his wife, Sheryl and Brian Parent and his wife, Rhonda, all of Van Buren; two daughters, Phyllis Lajoie and her husband, Ron and Paula LaFlamme and her husband, David, all of Caribou; a step-son, David Kinney of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a sister, Jeanette McKeon of Ipswich, MA; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Philip is predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Lillian (St. Jean) Parent; an infant daughter, Juliette Parent; a step-daughter, Marsha Martin; and three brothers.
A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Wednesday morning 8:30-9:45AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grand River Cemetery, Van Buren.
