Peter's Story

OLD TOWN - Peter Alfred Martin Sr. 86, passed away peacefully July 9, 2015 at Orono Commons. He was born July 29, 1928, in Orono, the son of George and Addie (Vasser) Martin.

Peter attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Orono. Once he turned 16, he started working for Coca-Cola, as the foreman of the bottling room. Peter worked for Coca- Cola for 18 years, until he got a job working for Bangor Police Department as the Head of the Parking, Maintenance and Meter Division, and Constable of Cascade Park in Bangor where he retired after 20 years of service.

Peter enjoyed spending time with his loving family and friends; telling stories, reminiscing about old times and his friendships; loved fishing, parties, picnics, and gatherings. Peter loved keeping up his property, making sure his landscape was in perfect and orderly condition. He belonged to the Noncommissioned Officer's Club (NCO) in Bangor, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bangor, and belonged to the Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family, in Old Town. Peter took great pride in raising his five children and immensely enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Mary Louise Martin; children Frank J. Martin and his wife Julie of Milton, Florida; their children, Tobey Martin, Jamie Helzer, Brandy Roete, Jeremy Martin, Makayla Martin, Terri Mashack and Robin Malone; Kathleen M. and her husband Steve Robinson of East Eddington; their children Laurie Maker and Harmony Jellison; Linda Leighton of Brewer and her daughter Kelli Shutts, Peter A. Martin, Jr. and his fiancee Louise Everett of Old Town; their children Nicole Martin, Alexander Martin, Damian Everett and Naomi Everett, Sally A. Babigian and her husband Dickran Babigian, Jr. of Newton, Massachusetts, their children Ashley and Jacob; His sister Edna Huntley of Lagrange; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving parents, George and Addie (Vasser) Martin; in-laws Merle 'Curly' and Sally Avery; his brothers, Everett, Francis, William, and Charles Martin; his sisters, Louise Sidelinker and Mary Lambing, and a grandson, Christopher Martin.

Friends may call Tuesday July 14, from 4-7pm at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main. St. Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Wednesday July 15, at the Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church, 429 Main St., Old Town.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Homestead Unit at Orono Commons for their care and compassion of Peter. They would also like to thank Eastern Maine Care and Hospice of Eastern Maine.
