Peter's Story

Text size

Pleasant Point - Peter A. Dana, of Sipayik, went to meet his creator and passed away Monday, April 17, 2017, with a long battle of COPD and lung cancer. His family never left his side to the day he passed away peacefully at Calais Hospital. His brief stay at the Alternative Care, assisted living in Calais was most enjoyable, they treated him like a king. His family is forever grateful. He enjoyed living there and going downstairs to gatherings or just watching TV on the big screen. His nickname was the Rig, Peter passed away at the age of 89 years. Peter was born on July 27, 1927 to parents, John D. and Maria L. (Sockbasin) Dana of Sipayik. Peter attended schools in Pleasant Point and Hartford, CT, where he first worked in a ship yard.
Peter's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends. He loved his family and blessed them with many happy memories of family gatherings. We can always count on him showing up really early and asking, "when are we going to eat?" He loved the Red Sox and watching boxing. He enjoyed going over to the elderly meal site and eat with others and watch the boys play pool. Peter always made sure when people needed to get somewhere he would drive them to their destination. People would see him parked at the boat landing overlooking the Passamaquoddy Bay. He enjoyed bottle collecting. You just didn't know when he would show up blowing his horn or ride up with his scooter chair.
In his early years, Peter drove truck most of his life, starting off with Cole's Express. He drove for Cole's for many years upon returning home he went to work in the woods for GP, actually cutting and hauling pulp to the paper mills. He then drove a propane truck for GP, traveling back and forth from Portland to the Woodland mill. He also drove for Thomas Dicenzo and was a longtime friend of Thomas. He was also known not to hold anything back and told you how it actually was, very outspoken man. Peter enjoyed so much getting together with his little grandchildren and just watching them play. Peter attended and in his early years traveled by his own private car before the elderly committee started renting a travel bus to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre Quebec, Canada.
He was predeceased by his parents; great granddaughter, Abigail; his special friend and the mother of his children, Alice C. Francis and his siblings, John D., Evelyn Francis, Viola Homan, Mary Alexander, Ambrose Dana, Noel Dana and Eunice Sockabasin.
