Pauline's Story

PEMBROKE - Pauline Stanhope Sprague, 85, passed away at her home on September 2, 2014 after a long illness. She was surrounded by her husband of 67 years Merle O. Sprague, and her loving family. She was born in Pembroke, ME, December 20, 1928 to Winfield and Ethel (Anthony) Stanhope.

She graduated from Pembroke High class of 1946. She was a wife, mother, and community volunteer. Pauline worked for many years at several sardine factories in Pembroke, Eastport, and Lubec, where she made many friends. She was also the Pembroke reporter and photographer for the Quoddy Tides for many years. She enjoyed taking pictures of Boy and Girl Scout Troops, and various community events. On voting day, Pauline could be found at the voting polls helping with registration and counting of the votes. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and University of Maine Extension. Her other interests beside her family and photography were knitting, sewing, and quilt making .

She is survived by her husband, Merle Sprague; four sons, Wendell and wife, Carleen of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL , Norman and longtime companion, Robert Latham of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Roger and wife, Theresa of Ellsworth , ME and Alan and wife, Carol of Pleasant Point, Perry ME; 9 grandchildren , 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at the Dennysville Cemetery with Pastor Gary Kinney officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the Sprague residence in Pembroke. All friends and family are cordially invited. In lieu of flowers donations in Pauline's name may be made to Community Health and Counseling Hospice Services, P.O. Box 425, Bangor, ME 04402.
