BLUE HILL - Paula Cuerremans Peer, 98, passed away at her home in Blue Hill, Maine, on May 8, 2014. She was born Sept. 4, 1915, in Yorkshire, England, and immigrated to the US with her family in 1939.
Paula and her husband, Rene C. Peer, were married 46 years, until his death in 1979. Paula's husband worked for many years for the Agency for International Development and the International Monetary Fund. As a result of Rene's career, Paula traveled and lived in many countries including some in Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and North America. Paula had a lifelong passion for art. She was an accomplished artist, earning a BA in fine arts from the University of the Americas in Mexico City, Mexico. She enjoyed many types of art, painting in oils, acrylics and especially water colors. Paula's many travels gave her the opportunity to study and learn many art forms. She also had a love of classical music and the performing arts. In earlier years she enjoyed many outdoor activities, including being a Girl Scout leader. She loved hiking and cross country skiing.
Paula is survived by her daughter, Rita D. Williams and son-in-law, Phil Williams, of Athens, Ohio; and grandsons, Marc Lincicome of Tampa, FL, and Ian Lincicome of Akron, Ohio; her son, Bryan P. Peer and daughter-in-law, Mary; two granddaughters, Christina Peer Daniels and her husband, Paul Daniels Jr., and four great-grandchildren, Trey Daniels, Chaz Daniels, Lucas Daniels and Sadie Daniels, all of Ashland, KY; and Lauren Peer Tackett and her husband, L.Cpl. Max D. Tackett, of Jacksonville, NC. Paula is also survived by a granddaughter, Lisa Hydrick of Yorktown, VA; a grandson, David S. Thurlow and his wife, Cathy, of Alameda, CA; a grandson, Eric Peer of Stockton Springs, ME; a grandson, Steve Norton Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, and two great-grandchildren, Anders and Greta, all of Concord, NH. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Steve Norton Sr. of Bucksport, ME, who was in Paula's last years a trusted advisor and close friend. After Rene's death, Paula met Paul Bloomquist, whom she shared her life with and was very devoted to for 21 years, until Paul's death. She is also survived by a dear and close friend, Marianne New, of Blue Hill, ME, whom she shared many interests, including their European heritage. In addition to her husband, Rene; a daughter, Annie Peer Norton; and a son, Kenneth Peer, also prececeased her. The family greatly appreciates and would like to thank Judy Tredwell, Renee Hardy and all of the staff of Parker Ridge Retirement Community.
Friends are welcome to join the family to celebrate her life and incredible experiences at 2 p.m. on June 19, 2014, at Parker Ridge Retirement Community, in Blue Hill, ME.
