Paul's Story

SALEM, N.H. - Paul E. Cutler, 85, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, N.H.  He was born in Waltham, Mass., a son of the late Paul C. and Margaret (White) Cutler. 

While growing up in Waltham he attended St. Charles School. Mr. Cutler proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1947 to 1951.  He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors for many years.  Following his service, he was a self-employed business man, operating Paul E. Cutler Wallpaper and Painting in Waltham, Mass., for many years.  Mr. Cutler also owned and operated the Trailer King in Salem, N.H., until his passing.  He was a communicant of St. Matthew Parish in Windham, N.H.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.  He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years; Maxine E. (Phillips) Cutler of Salem, N.H.; four sons, Ralph Cutler and his wife, Karen, of Belgrade, Harold Cutler and his wife Denise of Elgin, Okla., Edward Cutler and his wife, Cathy, of Ventura, Calif., and Robert Evans and his wife, Alicia, of Las Vegas; three daughters, Barbara Carroll and her husband, James, of Salem, N.H., Mary Irvine and her husband, Keith, of Waltham, Mass., and Paula Cutler and her companion, David Donato, of Salem, N.H.  He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Ruth Cutler of Levant; two brothers, James Cutler of California and John Cutler of Maine; three sisters, Carol Treadwell and her husband, Richard, of Levant, Linda Embry and her husband, Walter, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jane Withee and her husband, Peter, of Levant; and also by several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by three sisters, Marsha Nowell, Beverly Peltonen and Peggie Cutler. 

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, March 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, N.H.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Parish, 2 Searles Road, Windham, N.H.  Interment with military honors will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, 329 Main St., Salem, N.H.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Homeland Heroes Foundation, P.O.
