Patrick's Story

MACHIASPORT - Patrick was a beloved husband and father who passed away on Jan 25, 2015 and will be sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Helen M. Walsh (Sprague), his children, grandchildren, friends and co-workers. His children are Coleen Walsh of New Port Richey, FL, Kimberly Wrick and husband, James and granddaughter Kristin of Saginaw, TX, Tammy Steinmetz and husband David and grandchildren Michael, Robin, Douglas and Jacklen of Boothbay, and Gregory Greaves and wife Nichole and grandchildren Kyle, Cole and Jaiden of Wells. He has a sister-in-law, Rose Williams and husband Daniel of Machiasport. Dan was the brother Pat always wanted and they shared a bond of both being retired from the Coast Guard. Dan and Pat spent a lot of time together. Pat's favorite nephew is Daniel Williams Jr. of South Portland. Kimberly Poore (Pettegrow) is best friends with daughter, Tammy, and spent much time at Pat's home. John Molinski, a co-worker at Cutler Navy, was a special friend to Pat as they worked together for over 10 years. There were many children in and out of Pat's home, too numerous to name, but who all had a special spot in Pat's memories.

Pat was a retired US Coast Guard Radioman with 20+ years of service and was also a veteran of the Vietnam War. Pat also handled the ship-to-shore radio communications so sailors could talk to their families while at sea. Patrick fondly remembers his training on the Coast Guard sailing vessel, "The Eagle". Some of his stations were at So. Portland and Boston, MA but most of his time was spent on board CG cutters. He retired in 1977 as an E7 Petty Officer. After retiring, Pat worked various jobs and then at Cutler Navy base as a radio tech for 12 years. Pat was also an amateur radio operator and had contact with people all over the world. Pat had many commendations from the CG; two in particular for his duties in Viet Nam.

Pat was a very loving husband and father and would do anything for his family. Pat passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor in the Critical Care Unit where he received excellent and loving care. His wife, children and grandchildren were with him. Services will be private for the family. Those who wish to remember Patrick in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 3575, Portland, ME 04104. Arrangements by Brookings-Smith of Bangor.
