Patricia's Story

HARMONY - On August 16, 2015 Patricia Gourley Morrison, age 78, passed away peacefully in her home, with her loving and devoted children by her side. Patricia was born on March 6th, 1937 in Harmony, the daughter of Arlie and Effie Gourley.

Pat graduated from Harmony High School in 1954 and Thomas College in 1955. During high school she worked at Dassie's Restaurant where she met her best friend and future husband, John. After graduating from high school and college, Pat worked for attorney Dubord in Waterville. She then moved back to Harmony to work in the office at Sandler Shoe.

In 1957 Pat and John married and started their family, raising four children. Pat was a wonderful wife, mother and friend.

Pat began working at the Post Office in Harmony in 1970 and retired on January 31, 1998. Pat was very dedicated to whatever job she held, but could always take a minute to listen.

Pat enjoyed spending time with her three daughters, driving all over the state for sporting events and shopping trips. She also enjoyed their annual trip to the Maine coast for a few days each summer. She loved spending time outdoors, walking and working in her gardens and her evening visits with her son Tracy, discussing the day's events. Pat worked faithfully by John's side building their businesses, Morrison Lumber, Morrison Forest Products and Morrison's Garage. She dedicated much of her time to managing the books for their companies. In later years, they were always together picking up parts and looking at equipment. One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her eleven grandchildren who loved spending time with her as much as she did them. She will be so deeply missed by all who knew her.

Patricia is survived by her four children, Tracy and friend Lora of Harmony, Lori Poirier and husband Tim of Harmony, Susan Bowman and husband Kevin of St. Albans, and Diane Steeves and husband John of Skowhegan; grandchildren Travis, Ross, Kyle, Tyler and his wife Chelsea, Katie, Zachary, Abigail, Jonathan, Spenser, Julia, Jacob and great granddaughter Piper. She is also survived by her siblings Loretta Patterson of Harmony, Bill Gourley and wife Barbara of Canaan, Brenda Monahan and husband Jim of Bartlett, NH, and many nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and a brother Gregory.

The family would like to thank all those involved with the home care of Patricia, including the workers from Maine General Hospice.
