Oscar's Story

jupiter, FL., Bangor - Oscar William Davis Jr., 90, of Jupiter, Florida, formerly of Bangor, Maine, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Bolwell. He was born on October 5, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Oscar and Verna Hooper Davis. He graduated from Bucksport High School (Maine) and then served our country during WWII in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator on a Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress," flying 16 missions over Europe. Oscar graduated from the University of Maine with a B.A. in Liberal Arts. He ended his long career with Darling's Auto Parts at age 59. His retirement afforded he and Jackie over 20 years of warm winters in Ft. Pierce, Florida and beautiful summers in Maine. He was active in church life and served as a deacon at each residence.
Oscar is survived by his four children: Valerie Kitchen of Bangor, Maine, Nancy Davis Groves (Tom) of Columbia, South Carolina, Robert and Vicky Davis of Jupiter, Florida, and Scott and Lola Davis of Boca Raton, Florida. He is also survived by his brother, Phil and Polly Davis of Orland, Maine and several nieces and nephews. He was blessed with eight grandchildren: Aaron Kitchen (Kara), Heather Kitchen, Andrew Groves, Kristina Groves Langley (Spencer) , Dr. Taylor Davis, Graham Davis, Wesley Davis and Gabriela Davis and two great grandchildren: Davis Kitchen and Surett Langley.
Oscar's greatest passion was his love of music, playing both the trombone and French horn in his university band, Al Corey's Band, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Bangor and Brewer bands as well as ensembles with friends. Occasionally, he sang and performed his favorite song, "Walkin' My Baby Back Home" and wooed the crowd! He also loved photography and blessed his family with countless photographs and slide shows. But above all else was his love for God and family. His unselfish love and commitment to those he loved was extraordinary.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Hammond Street Congregational Church in Bangor, Maine.
