Oric's Story

LINCOLN - Oric O. O'Brien, 97, passed away April 24, 2014, at a Ft. Myers, Fla. Hospital. He was born January 22, 1918 in Brooks, to Walter and Lila (Estes) O'Brien.

He served in the US Army during World War II, in the South Pacific, after graduating from the University of Maine with a degree in Forestry. Oric retired after 31 years in the forest industry with Dead River Co. Timberlands Div. Oric spent his retirement years in Ft. Myers, Fla., Lincoln and summers at camp on Bottle Lake in Lakeville. He enjoyed all three places, but having his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren visiting him was his favorite part of retirement.

Oric was predeceased by his wife and mother of his children, Carolyn Work O'Brien; his wife Lois DeLong O'Brien; and two sisters, Sheila and Chesla O'Brien. Oric is survived by a sister, Vennesa O'Brien, of East Longmeadow, Mass.; two daughters, Darcy and Wally Campbell, of Lakeville, and Valerie and Stuart Whittier, of Myrtle Beach, SC; one son, Kevin O'Brien and Cheryl Kroemer, of Springfield. "Grampa Oric" is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, that he cherished and enjoyed being an important part of their developing years all the way to adulthood.
