- Orella Hilchey Chandler, 74, died peacefully December 27, 2016, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 19, 1942, a daughter of Paul and Eva (Oakes) Collins.
Orella graduated from Old Town High School, class of 1960. She attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1963 as a registered nurse. She spent most of her career at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. She retired in 2008 after working 16 years at Acadia OB-GYN. In 1989, Orella graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelors of University Studies. She enjoyed reading, writing, needlecraft, quilting, and papercrafting.
She is survived by two children Diane Giarusso and her husband Joseph of Metheun, MA, and Paul Hilchey-Chandler of Bangor; a granddaughter Corey Giarusso of Methuen, MA; close friends Catherine Grant, Faith Delaney and Charles Chandler. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Bryan F. Hilchey in 1976 and a brother George A. Collins.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted 2 p.m., May 6, 2017, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where friends may gather from 12 noon until time of service.
