Ora "Sonny"'s Story
- Ora James "Sonny" Bartlett, 80, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 15, 2017, at a local nursing facility in Bangor. He was born Sept. 30, 1936 in Medway, the son of Walter W. and Leah M. (Nesbett) Bartlett.
Sonny was a graduate of Schenck high school class of 1954. After high school Sonny enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served aboard the USS Des Moines until being discharged. He entered the next phase of his life by returning home to E. Millinocket and starting his career at Great Northern Paper Co., where he would work until retirement in 1996. He loved the outdoors and being in the wilderness, particularly Hunting, fishing and trapping. He was an avid sports fan, taking great pride in the NY Yankees and looked forward to March Madness where he would cheer on the Syracuse Orange Men.
Sonny is survived by his son Timothy Whynot and wife Kristen of Bangor. Granddaughter Kara Beckwith of Bangor. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, a loving wife Helena "Winky" Bartlett, daughter Susan Whynot and Sister Marion Murphy.
A graveside memorial in E. Millinocket will be announced at a later date.
