Olive's Story

BREWER - Olive E. Knights, 90, went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2015, after a long illness. She was born in Old Town on March 18, 1925, the fourth daughter of Murray L. and Maude A. (Feero) Waye.

Olive was a graduate of Old Town High School in the Class of 1943. She was married to the late Truman L. Knights and they had three children, Judith, Marjorie, and David Truman Knights. Olive was a faithful and active member of the Columbia Street Baptist Church and the Maxwell Sunday School Class. She was an avid reader who read tirelessly to her children, nieces and nephews, and daycare children, teaching them the joy of a good story and enabling them to read prior to attending school. Olive and her late husband Truman worked long hours together for 65 years making improvements to their home and tending their gardens. She was a devout Christian who was always a phone call away, giving love and support to all those in need.

In addition to her family she will be sadly missed by a dear friend Jane Horton and a special niece, Carolyn Mooney-Wegerdt, whom she loved and cared for as a child. Olive was predeceased by her husband Truman, and a daughter, Judith.

Friends may call 5-7 PM, Thurs, April 9, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer, where funeral services will be held 1 PM, Fri, April 10, with Rev. Stan Moody Ph. D., pastor of the Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Because Olive was such an avid reader, gifts in her memory may be made to the Columbia Street Baptist Church library, 63 Columbia Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
