Olean's Story

ASHLAND - Olean Roselle Eastman passed peacefully away on September 22, 2014 at a Bangor hospital with her son by her side. Born in Easton, Maine on September 6, 1925, Olean was the only daughter of Fred and Juanita York.

She had six brothers who adored and cherished her. A mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Olean had eight children of her own. She raised them with the gentle love and protection only she could provide. She also helped raise numerous grandchildren who regard her as the precious gem she was. Olean leaves behind a legacy of love and countless broken hearts. A true matriarch, she was loved and respected by all who had the honor of knowing this gentle and graceful Lady. Olean worked hard her entire life. She rose early to care for her family and home. The only memories of her seated were late in her life. She loved to pick wild strawberries and fiddleheads and each year put up an abundance of preserves, none so treasured as her bread and butter pickles which frequently brought out the greed in her children as they vied for the last jar. It is impossible to acknowledge all of the special people in our mother's life both friends and extended family, but they know who they are and so do we. We sincerely thank you.

Olean is predeceased by her husband of forty-six years, Clyde Eastman, Sr. and three daughters, Ann Casey, Jennie MacDonald and Nancy Cullins. She leaves behind six children in order of birth: Wendell Gillis and his wife, Barb of Garfield, Polly Harvey and her husband, Ron of Presque Isle, Susan McHatten and her husband, Kendall, of Mapleton, Lori Lee McKenzie of Mapleton, Clyde Eastman Jr and his wife, Susan of Masardis and James Arthur Eastman of Garfield. Thirteen Grandchildren: John Casey, Kathy Lewin, Douglas MacDonald, Lori Ann Chandler, Gregory Gillis, Melanie Cote, Patricia Craig, Tina Stolz, Rick McKenzie, Amanda Chalou, Angela Saucier, Dustin Eastman, and Joshua Eastman. Twenty-two great-grandchildren: John Casey, Samantha Casey, Alisha Osgood, Hillary MacDonald, Christopher Pelletier, Charlie Chandler, Jordan Chandler, Chase Chandler, Alex Gillis, Rachel Gillis, Abigail Cote, Meagan Cote, Sam Craig, Alexis Craig, Shelby Stolz, Damian Stolz, Olivia Lee Chalou, Kayla McGrath, Colby Saucier, Jordan Saucier, Bailey Saucier and baby Eastman due April 7, 2015.

One great-great-grandchild, Vivienne Pelletier; three special friends, Charlotte Rafford, Bernetta Dubay and Vicki Tilley.

Per our Mother's wishes there will a graveside service for friends and family held in Ashland, 1 p.m. Sept. 26, 2014. Flowers may be sent to Faye Funeral Home in Presque Isle Maine. However, in lieu of flowers donations in her name are encouraged to the American Heart Association or Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.
