Norma's Story

WINTERPORT - Norma Mae (Southard) Harnish, 82, died October 10, 2014 surrounded by family at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 17, 1932 in Hampden, a daughter of Gorham LeForrest Southard Sr. and Grace (Meservey) Southard.

She loved music, playing the guitar, and enjoyed bowling. She worked for many years as a waitress at the Eagles Nest and Morrison Seafood and enjoyed the interaction with the patrons. She enjoyed stock car racing at Speedway 95, was an avid Red Sox fan. Family was important to Norma and she enjoyed visiting family, family gatherings and reunions.

She is survived by three sons, David L. Harnish and his wife, Susan of Bangor, William L. Harnish III and his wife, Becky of Winterport, Ronald A. Harnish and soulmate, Nancy Benecke of Winterport; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, "Foddy" LeForrest Southard of Hampden, sisters, Thelma Cyr of Bangor, Iva Southard of Jackman; many nieces and newphews. She was predeceased husband, William Harnish Jr. in 2004; sisters, Rita Spaulding, Arlene Przekwas, Barbara Fletcher, Dodie Moon, and Theresa Southard.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
