Bucksport - Nola Marie (Sherman) Soper, 85, left us unexpectedly February 4, 2017 to be with her heavenly father. Nola was born April 20, 1931 in Brooks ME, to Beecher and Edith (Hamm) Sherman. She moved to Bucksport at age 3 where she lived the rest of her life. A 1949 Graduate of Bucksport High and Graduate of Mt. Ida Jr. College as a Medical Technologist. Her home and Christian faith were dear to her. She was a member of the Methodist church in Bucksport and a founding member of the Belfast Church of the Nazarene; a 40 year member where she was Superintendent of and Sunday school teacher, Missionary Pres., and Board member. Nola rode and raised horses, taught riding lessons, and led the Pine Cone 4-H Riders Club. She gave to and collected for many charities. Nola belonged to several dog clubs where she was Pres., V. Pres., Sec., Treasurer , or Newsletter editor many times. She raised and showed dogs for over 40 years. She taught dog obedience classes for Bucksport adult Ed. for many years. Nola was an avid gardener and a long time member of the Maine Herb Society.
Nola is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Norman Parker Soper, her son David and his wife Donna of Dedham, daughter Edith (Soper) Colston of Bucksport ; grandchildren, Mandy Croft and her husband Chris, Mia Lenfest and her husband Ryan, and Joshua Soper; great grandchildren, Ciera, Cassy, Alina, and Brielle; great great granddaughter Isabella, many nieces and nephews and special friends. In addition to her parents, Nola was predeceased by sister Jean, brothers Avon, Cecil, and Walter Sherman; sisters-in-law Caroline and Margaret; and son-in-law Thomas H. Colston Jr.
Relatives and friends may call 6-8 P.M. Friday February 10th at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 28 Elm St. Bucksport. A celebration of Nola's life will be held Sat. February 11th, 11A.M. at the Belfast Church of the Nazarene, 95 Swanlake Ave. A spring internment will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland.
