MARS HILL - Nita J. Flannery, 95, passed away on October 14, 2014 at Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. She was born on May 16, 1919, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Larrabee) Hallet.
Nita grew up in Mars Hill attending school there. She married Philip Flannery and they lived in Littleton and had a potato farm. Nita helped on the farm driving the barrel potato truck in the fall. Nita and Phil loved going to their camp in Grindstone, Maine, where they had many good memories.
Nita enjoyed knitting and cooking, even though she said she didn't, and was well-known for many homemade goodies but especially her donuts. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a joke or story.
Survivors include granddaughter, Connie Rideout and her husband, Donald of Westfield; grandson, Jodie Morse of Presque Isle, great-grandson, Troy Young and his children, Tyler, Taylor, and Haylee of Westfield, great-grandson, Todd Young and Emalee Drost of Blaine, several nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Glenda Bell and Delores Ferrino of Mars Hill. In addition to her parents, Nita was predeceased by her husband, Philip; daughter, Anna Morse; brothers, George and Frank Hallet; sisters, Alice Lawrence, Amy Shaw, Minnie Blanchard, Grace Smith and Faye Jones and great-great-granddaughter, Cheyanna Jo Young.
In keeping with Nita's wishes, a graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Pierce Cemetery in Mars Hill, Rev. Lawrence Beals officiating. Services are in care of Duncan Graves Funeral Home. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.duncan-graves.com
